The PPA Challengers series gives up-and-coming competitive players a chance to earn PPA ranking points without the intensity of a full tour stop. The Newport Beach Challenger 250 event runs over three days in early April, making it a perfect spring tournament for Southern California players who want structured, high-quality competition. With 250 ranking points on the line, this event attracts serious amateur players looking to climb the PPA leaderboard.
One of the best perks of PPA Challenger events is the free grounds pass for amateur spectators. Even if you are not competing, you can come watch the action, check out the vendor area, and get a feel for tournament play before signing up for one yourself. The Newport Beach Tennis Center provides a clean, well-maintained venue with good court surfaces and convenient parking.
At $75 per entry, this is slightly more affordable than a full PPA Tour stop. The Challenger format tends to have smaller fields, which means fewer matches to win but tighter competition in each round. If you are rated 3.5 or above and have been thinking about entering your first PPA-affiliated event, a Challenger is the ideal starting point. Register early -- these events fill up as the date approaches.
