The California State Games is a multi-sport Olympic-style competition, and pickleball has become one of its fastest-growing events. Held at the Coronado Marriott Courts in mid-July, this tournament is open to players from California, Arizona, Nevada, and Baja Mexico, giving it a broader competitive field than most regional events. The State Games atmosphere is unique -- you are part of a larger athletic festival, which adds an element of ceremony and camaraderie that standalone pickleball tournaments lack.

Coronado is one of the most beautiful locations you could hope to play pickleball. The Marriott courts offer a resort setting just minutes from the beach, and the island community has excellent restaurants, shops, and a walkable downtown. July weather in Coronado is reliably sunny with temperatures in the mid-70s thanks to ocean proximity. If you are traveling for this event, consider making it a vacation -- there are few better places in Southern California to spend a summer weekend.

Entry fees are still to be determined for 2026, but historically the State Games has been affordable compared to private tournament operators. All skill levels are welcome, making this a good option for newer players who want tournament experience in a supportive environment. Medal winners earn the distinction of being California State Games champions, which looks great on your competitive resume. Check the Cal State Games website for registration updates as the event approaches.
